AI & Editorial Policy
Last updated: October 2026
URevolution is an independent, disability-led media, lifestyle and e-commerce brand built around lived experience, honest conversation and independent voices.
Artificial intelligence is becoming part of the way publishing, research, design and digital commerce work. We use AI tools where they can make our work more efficient or useful. But there is a line we will not cross: AI cannot replace lived experience, human judgment or editorial accountability.
Everything published by URevolution remains our responsibility.
How we use AI
We may use generative AI and other AI-assisted tools to support parts of our editorial and business workflow.
This can include research assistance; organising or summarising source material; editing and proofreading; grammar and readability improvements; article structure; headline ideas; SEO research and optimisation; metadata and search descriptions; transcription; translation; repurposing existing material for email or social media; analysing information; and developing visual concepts or illustrations.
AI output is never automatically treated as accurate simply because a system produced it. Where accuracy matters, information must be checked against appropriate sources before publication.
Lived experience must come from real people
This is non-negotiable.
URevolution publishes first-person stories about disability, chronic illness, neurodivergence, mental health, healthcare, relationships and other deeply personal subjects.
We will not use AI to invent someone’s lived experience.
We will not generate a fictional disability or illness story and present it as a genuine first-person account. We will not use AI to impersonate a contributor or manufacture quotes, experiences, diagnoses, emotions or opinions and attribute them to a real person.
AI may help edit, structure or refine a contributor’s work, but the experience and perspective must remain theirs.
Different disabled and chronically ill people can have very different experiences and opinions. AI will not be used to flatten those differences into a single supposedly representative voice.
Human oversight and accountability
A human remains responsible for editorial decisions.
AI-generated material may contain factual errors, fabricated information, misleading citations, bias or language that does not reflect URevolution’s standards.
Where AI assists our work, its output is treated as material requiring human judgment rather than as an authority in its own right.
We also distinguish personal experience from medical advice. URevolution may publish stories about diagnosis, healthcare, treatment and navigating medical systems, but we are not a clinical health service and do not use AI to provide individual medical treatment recommendations.
Images and synthetic people
AI-generated illustration can sometimes be useful for editorial, campaign or creative work.
We will not use synthetic imagery to pretend that an invented person is a real URevolution contributor, customer, patient or source.
We will not knowingly use AI-generated imagery to simulate a real disabled person’s lived experience when doing so would mislead the audience about who or what they are seeing.
Where an image has been substantially created or materially altered using generative AI, we will disclose that when the nature of the image could otherwise be misunderstood.
When we disclose AI use
We do not believe every use of AI requires a label.
Using AI to check grammar, suggest headlines, organise research, improve metadata or help adapt an existing article for another format does not normally change the authorship or substance of the work.
We will disclose AI use when it has played a substantial role in creating material that readers could reasonably assume was created directly by a human.
That can include significant AI-generated editorial text, AI-generated illustrations, synthetic media or other substantial generative work.
Our disclosures will focus on what AI was used to do, rather than simply naming a piece of software.
Privacy and sensitive information
URevolution contributors and readers may share personal information involving disability, illness, healthcare, relationships, employment and other sensitive subjects.
We will take reasonable care when using AI tools and will not knowingly provide confidential or sensitive information to external AI systems when doing so would be inappropriate or unnecessary.
Our responsibility does not change
AI is a tool.
It does not become the author, editor or person responsible for what URevolution publishes.
We remain accountable for our articles, images, products and communications regardless of which technologies helped us create them.
We expect our use of AI to change as the technology develops. We will review this policy when our practices change materially.
AI may assist our work. It does not replace lived experience, editorial judgment or human accountability.
